Who We Are

Octopi – your local specialists in recycled plastic pellets

Less litter

Octopi is a Lagos-based, privately-owned plastic waste recycling company established in 2017. We specialize in recycling various plastic waste streams into near-prime raw materials that can then be reintroduced into the supply chain and help to reduce our reliance on virgin plastics.

Our main product line is a range of plastic pellets, made from scrap plastic products that we have sourced, sorted, cleaned and then transformed into high-quality, premium raw pellets (often known as ‘pelletized polypropylene’) suitable for use in the manufacture of multiple household items.

Plastics are produced in vast quantities throughout the world and are found in a wide range of products that we use every day and. Given their convenience, they are here to stay – but millions of tonnes of plastics are abandoned every year.

As a result, plastic waste can be found everywhere; on the streets, in our oceans and in landfill sites. As it does not decompose, it harms the environment.

This has created an urgent need for driving a circular economy, where waste is seen as a resource. Since its inception in 2017, Octopi has been an active player in changing the way Nigeria sees plastic waste. Today, more Nigerian companies than ever are using recycled plastic materials instead of new.

Our mission

To produce recycled plastic raw materials that can be used as a replacement for new virgin plastics.

We are a well-established, people-oriented business driven by a desire to ramp up the production and usage of recycled plastic/recycled polypropylene to replace virgin plastics. When we collectively decide to do that, we save on the energy required to convert fossil fuels to new plastics and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions. More importantly, it means less waste ends up in our streets, landfills, rivers and oceans.

Our vision

To become a leading light in driving the green economy in Africa.

As Octopi’s expertise becomes ever more entwined with Nigeria’s plastic waste recycling industry, it is our goal in the coming years to become one of the leading recycling specialists across the whole of the African continent.

We aspire to achieve this by educating and facilitating better economic opportunities for communities, diverting plastic waste from landfills to recycling plants and providing sustainable alternatives to virgin plastics.

Our founder’s message

“The environmental hazards caused by increased plastic waste pollution and the urgent need to create more sustainable manufacturing methods are well-documented global concerns. In Nigeria, my home country, this concern is visible to the public everywhere they go.

Since 2017, we have worked hard to create awareness about the need to adapt to sustainable methods in the use of plastic while educating businesses about the financial and social benefits of moving away from new virgin raw materials.

More recently, the disruption in global supply chains has created bigger incentives for manufacturers to rely on locally-sourced materials. As a result, Octopi has stepped up its production output to ensure a continuous supply of high-grade recycled pellets into the market, thus providing a sustainable alternative to virgin plastic.

Plastic doesn’t have to clog up rivers, roadsides and landfill sites when it is no longer fit for its original purpose. Our goal is to give it a second chance – helping the environment, our suppliers and local manufacturers in the process.”
